Giffords Ln. & Amboy Rd.
My Tottenville Residential Review
"203" Main Street The address is in quotes because I'm not sure if it is correct, but right address or not, there's no missing this building and it's fatal flaw, which could in turn be fatal to struggling Main Street itself. This building is a combination condo-office space, four floors, all done up in yellow and red stucco. While the design looks like a barn-turned-small apartment building, its great weakness is its siting. Instead of being built up to the street, like the recently completed Eltingville Plaza on Richmond Avenue, it was built with the parking lot in front, and the building is pushed out of the spotlight, into a sea of asphalt. Talk about destroying the streetscape of an already weak avenue! A similar development up the road from the busy intersection of Amboy and Giffords Lane in Great Kills has me wondering when developers will learn to hide parking lots, which encourage cars to continue to clog our streets.
