The continued closure of the Henry Hudson Bridge to pedestrian and bicycle traffic for the next two years is an unacceptable obstruction for both recreation and commutation between Manhattan and the Bronx. The bridge is the only link between Spuyten Duyvil and Manhattan, a convenience that we cannot afford to lose for this exorbitant period of time.

One of the greatest pleasures of living in Spuyten Duyvil was to pack a lunch and walk or cycle across the Henry Hudson Bridge to spend a few hours at Inwood Hill Park. In recent years the extension of the green space along the West Side Highway made it possible to cycle from Riverdale to Battery Park in relative safety. This recent development was a tremendous attraction for cyclists who desired a residence in Riverdale with a convenient cycling commute to Manhattan.

Last year, schools and other sites in the Riverdale-Kingsbridge area provided 27,868 breakfasts and 53,577 lunches to students who might otherwise have gone hungry. Citywide, the Summer Meals Program, which is funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, serves 66,000 students breakfast and 131,000 students lunch daily through the DOE, according to the city Department of Education.

A colorful Tudor-style home in the heart of Fieldston (Real Estate Section)
Not so in 1928, when the stately five-bedroom home at 4503 Fieldston Road was built. The architects worked with care to evoke the proportions and the detailing of an authentic Tudor dwelling with limestone quoins around a heavy paneled entrance door, checkerboard stone patterning on red brick walls, leaded casement windows, slate roofing and, of course, half-timber on stucco.
