    The Department of Defense announced Monday the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom. Spc. Jorge L. Feliz Nieve, 26, of Queens Village, N.Y., died on Aug. 28 of injuries suffered in a vehicle incident in Mosul, Iraq. He was assigned to the 3rd Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, Fort Hood, Texas. The incident is under investigation.

  • Springfield Boulevard and 92nd Avenue Bus Carrying Handicapped Crashes

    The bus, which had around 17 people on board, crashed at around 4:30 p.m. at Springfield Boulevard and 92nd Avenue. Fourteen people were transported to Long Island Jewish Medical Center, three of whom had serious but not life-threatening injuries, the fire department said. The remaining three passengers didn't require medical attention.

    Javier Morales, 22, allegedly threw Alex McFarlane onto a St. Albans, Queens, street early on July 3. McFarlane was taken to Mary Immaculate Hospital in a coma, and on Sunday, doctors declared him brain-dead, his father, Alfonso McFarlane, said. They kept Alex on life support for a day to preserve his organs for donation.
