150 Hastings Street
Sheepshead's Bedroom Community at Chateau Prices
Information from Brownstoner.com, a website that seems to truly know "Brooklyn inside and out", compared this to other home sales in Brooklyn. The Brownstoners say that the 150 Hastings Street property last sold in 2005 for $800,000. This is where my mind blanks out.

Ford St. & Emmons Ave.
A Stolen View (part 2)
Above are several more shots of the view stolen by the owners of the Breakers, a development on Ford Street and Emmons Avenue. As most of you already know, the development has installed a gate, locking out the community members who've lived here for years and have longed for increased waterfront access. These shots were taken back in April, when I wandered into the construction site to get some pictures from the pier (with a rather cruddy camera).

La Sorrentina Steals First in Violation Points
Less than two weeks after crowning Garden Bay Café the neighborhood's top dog in food inspection violation points, a new contender has swept in, stealing the title. La Sorrentina 11 Pizzeria, at 1652 Sheepshead Bay Road, took the prize with 45 violation points, a narrow 4-point margin from the neighborhood's now-second-place Garden Bay. But unlike the Armenian gastro-wrecked-omy destination, La Sorrentina's victorious failure came on its follow up visit.

2679 Coney Island Ave
Roy's Cycle Shop On Fire
Brooklyn's oldest bicycle shop, Roy's Sheepshead Cycle, was aflame at 4:00 a.m. today, with a fire that started in the shop's mechanical repair area. Located at 2679 Coney Island Ave. the store has been a community fixture since its establishment in 1931. Luckily, the fire did not hinder the shop's ability to serve the neighborhood: despite the fire, the store remains open, and though the service area (located in a garage towards the back of the establishment) has been shut down, Roy's mechanics packed up and moved into an empty storefront two doors down, according to Ilya Nikhamin, who works in sales. Nikhamin added that he expects the store to be "fully operational - 100%" within two weeks. Fire marshals have not yet discovered the cause of the fire.

Disabled Persons "Vehemently Opposed" at CB15
Tuesday night's Community Board 15 meeting exploded into controversy over a proposal to bring a group home for mentally disabled persons to 2055 East 21st Street. Residents brought a number of concerns to the table, ranging from sensible, legitimate arguments to down-right bigotry. But underneath their callous, insensitive ideas of the mentally disabled, their concerns hinted at an issue in the area that, unfortunately, was dismissed due to their offensiveness.

3027 Emmons Ave
Best Western Real Estate Klusterfuck
Ok, maybe not the most profound headline, but I think it captures the situation pretty well. Following my post on Best Western buying up adjacent properties on Emmons Ave., a commenter claiming to exclusively represent the seller on the sale of the four lots 3027-3033 Emmons Avenue which include the Cappuccino on the Bay building, wrote in saying that, while the properties had been sold, Best Western was not the owner. Well, Gene Berardelli of the Sheepshead Bay/Plumb Beach Civic Association has done some digging into the matter and, well, to quote from his findings: "The answer is yes... and no."
