read the fine print of the bike share program

while the initial program looks amazing and makes nyc seem uber bike friendly...the rates after the fact will drain your wallet dry.....people are going to get hosed!

Expansion to Harlem (and beyond!) is absolutely part of the vision. The more successful the program, the more quickly and aggressively it will grow. Keep agitating for stations and use a citibike when you can!

I hope that this evening you might discuss the lack of police patrol in the neighborhood. It would help to move loiterers from in front of buildings. I'm sorry I can't be there, I just found this online. On 116th street between Lenox & 7th ave. I find that the open drug use and drinking has increased dramatically. If the police would just move them along so that people don't have to walk through a group of 5 to 10 men just to get in their own buildings. They mainly begin gathering at sunset and then thorughout the evening until the wee hours of the morning. Folks from Graham Court will not even walk down our block.

Another Assault at Marcus Garvey Dog Run

Yesterday the woman who punched another dog owner several weeks ago hit someone at the dog run again, according to a witness. The woman owns a brindle boxer.

Yesterday the woman who punched another dog owner several weeks ago hit someone at the dog run again, according to a witness. The woman owns a brindle boxer.

The dog is aggressive and, while I don't know of her actually injuring another dog, she frequently attacks other dogs. She has twice pinned my dog and needed to be pulled off by a human. When this happens, the owner's response, at best, is to sit on a bench yelling her dog's name.

When people say something to the owner, she responds with profanity, aggressiveness, and, in at least two cases, physical assault.

The police have been called twice in response. The first time they did nothing. The second time, the woman ran to her building nearby, and I don't know whether the police found her. They also likely did not know that she had done this before.

  • i do think shaming her by putting a picture of her at the run as a bad owner and someone who assaults other people in the run would be a good idea.

  • We all have a smartphone, if you don't get with the times. Shoot a video of this women acting out. Also complain to the parks department maybe they can ban the lady.

My 24 year old son and his girlfriend were verbally abused outside a deli/bodega type store ON Broadway between Tieman Place and LaSalle street at about 2:00a.m. sunday morning. The late teen to 20 something group of about 5 men then assaulted and beat my son. A police report was filed and he was taken to a local hospital by ambulance. He had many cuts and bruises as well as two very large lumps on his head. He suffered a concussion and his jaw and neck were badly bruised and sore.
He is awaiting further follow up from the 26th precinct, as of today we have had no additional communication from the police dept. The "deli" did not call 911 for him or offer any help even though he had just exited their store AND this all took place literally within their eyesight as they have a large glass window in front. This was totally unprovoked and these men were strangers to him and his date.
The 28th precinct took the complaint but it must be transferred to the 26th precinct because the location of the assault was within their jurisdiction. Has anyone had a similar experience? What happens next? How do I handle my son's mixed emotions?
Thanks for taking the time to read this and for any enlightenment you might provide.

I also want to say I'm sorry for your troubles, stay strong for your son in the meantime yes, look into cameras in the area, as well as keep after the precinct. As far as being shady or lonely that is not the case, there are several establishments along that side of Broadway that are open quite late it is possible someone saw something rather than being lonely there are to many characters just hanging and we have to make the precinct work for the neighborhood it will be warm summer hang out weather soon and the hanging around will only escalate,

  • Thank you very much for commenting. It's surprising how just being able to share the events on Everyblock has helped me. To the many kind people who wrote words of encouragement and advice I am greatly indebted. It is going to require constant effort and followup on my part to make sure the detectives follow through. Turns out the 26th precinct didn't contact me because someone at the 28th precinct had voided the report!!! It had to be located and restored to the system an then forwarded.

If we have enough people, we will be meeting at the TOP of the 113 stairs, which are just south of the pond, and will work from 10-1. If you can only give a little less time, that's okay too. We need YOU!

Gardening experience is not required. You can also bring your children, but be aware that we are working with sharp tools and moving heavy objects. Please wear long pants or tall socks and full shoes or sneakers. Bring water. We will provide gloves.

Best food trucks in Harlem

Just saw a neighbor downtown post on EveryBlock about East Village food trucks and it made me wonder, where are the best food trucks in Harlem? Any have reccs?

  • ...an attempt to authoritive claim that something is not authentic...!!!

  • Dee at Uptownflavor Uptownflavor: Your Harlem Lifestyle Destination

Yeah, the most buzzed food trucks rarely venture up this far. During the Father's Day Bike Race the Waffles and Dinges truck will come to Marcus Garvey Park. I think food trucks would do well in Harlem. I am thinking maybe in front of the State Building on 125th Street if they can find a spot would produce the most foot traffic.

zero help from the precinct...(28 to be exact)

apparently it's now acceptable to loiter, urinate, & smoke crack & drink liquor in front of an abandoned bldg.... cop car rolls up, officers don't even get out, allow the 3 individuals, 1 of whom proceeded to urinate directly against the wall of the building while he watched me walk down toward him while i was trying to get home.

really? i'm guessing since this isn't iphone crime, it's not worth the actual effort of getting out of a car....

i'd like to thank the 28 for helping to keep the quality of life barometer pathetically LOW.
