  According to the police, Detective Davison was out with friends early Sunday when he saw a group beating a man outside a St. Albans nightclub about 2 a.m. Detective Davison intervened, and one man fired a TEC-9 semiautomatic handgun at the detective.

• Jamaica Reports: Off-duty cop in shooting failed sobriety test

  The detective, a court officer and a correction officer -- all off-duty -- at a party at a nearby Jamaica club tried to break up a fight involving five men. One of the men, Stephon Allston, 22, of 64 Grassmere Terr., Far Rockaway, opened fire on the detective, who identified himself as an officer, police said. The officer returned gunfire, striking Allston in the left arm and leg.
