| Text | ISSUED TO: Casimilo Villa 33-44 85th Street Flushing, NY 11372 Pursuant to Section 25-307 of the Administrative Code of the City of New York, the Landmarks Preservation Commission, at the Public Meeting of January 9, 2007, following the Public Hearing of the same date, voted to approve a proposal to alter a storefront at the subject premises, as put forward in your application completed on December 14, 2006, and as you were notified of in Status Update Letter 07-4951, issued on January 9, 2007. The proposal, as approved, consists of installing a new black painted finish aluminum and glass storefront with metal bulkheads, and featuring applied signage on the glass ("Magnetic Fields"); a new fiberglass cornice at the storefront, painted black; and a new paneled metal residential entrance door. The proposal was shown on presentation boards consisting of current condition photographs; a historic district map; and drawings A-1, A-2, A-3, and A-4, dated received December 12, 2006, prepared by Willis Scull De La Cour, Jr., R.A.; all presented at the Public Hearing. In reviewing this proposal, the Commission noted that 97 Atlantic Avenue is a two-story building that was constructed in 1976 under a Certificate of Appropriateness. With regard to this proposal, the Commission found that the removal of the existing ground floor infill will not result in the elimination of significant historic fabric; that the storefront configuration, consisting of display windows with paneled metal bulkheads, is in keeping with storefronts historically found within the Brooklyn Heights Historic District and on Atlantic Avenue, and reinforces the pattern of typical commercial ground floors in the streetscape; that the material and finish of the storefront are in keeping with storefronts throughout the historic district; that the fiberglass cornice will introduce a crowning element that is typical of historic storefronts; that the signage applied to the glass will be of a modest scale, and therefore will not call undue attention to itself; and that the cumulative effect of the work will be to further enhance the character of the building, and to contribute to the special architectural and historic character of the block and the historic district. Based on these findings the Commission determined the work to be appropriate to the building and to the historic district, and voted to approve this application. However, the Commission made its determination subject to the stipulation that two copies of final Department of Building filing drawings showing the approved work be submitted to the Commission for review and approval. Subsequently, on January 26, 2007, the Landmarks Preservation Commission received DOB filing drawings A-1 through A-4, prepared by Willis Scull De La Cour, Jr., R.A. The Commission reviewed the drawings and found that the design approved by the Landmarks Preservation Commission had been maintained. Therefore, Certificate of Appropriateness 07-6300 is being issued. This permit is issued on the basis of the building and site conditions described in the application and disclosed during the review process. By accepting this permit, the applicant agrees to notify the Commission if the actual building or site conditions vary or if original or historic building fabric is discovered. The Commission reserves the right to amend or revoke this permit, upon written notice to the applicant, in the event that the actual building or site conditions are materially different from those described in the application or disclosed during the review process. All approved drawings are marked approved by the Commission with a perforated seal indicating the date of approval. The work is limited to what is contained in the perforated documents. Other work or amendments to this filing must be reviewed and approved separately. The applicant is hereby put on notice that performing or maintaining any work not explicitly authorized by this permit may make the applicant liable for criminal and/or civil penalties, including imprisonment and fines. This letter constitutes the permit; a copy must be prominently displayed at the site while work is in progress. Please direct inquiries to Jacqueline Peu-Duvallon. Robert B.
